Chaucer Primary School
Devonport High School for Boys
Devonport High School for Boys is a Foundation Grammar, Specialist Engineering and Specialist Languages School with approximately 1100 students, including 6th Form, on role. We believe our two specialisms add to the unique experience of working in our school. Devonport High School for Boys has a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Marjon, we have many experienced mentors and we endeavour to place trainees in all subject areas. We value the fresh ideas and enthusiasm that trainees bring and in turn we provide the opportunities and challenges of teaching able boys. We are particularly pleased to be able to offer some of our trainees the opportunity to spend a residential week in France with our Year 7 pupils. This always proves to be an enjoyable and stimulating experience and trainees agree that it is the highlight of their teaching practice.

Tavistock College
Weston Mill Community Primary School
At Weston Mill School, which is a Partnership School for the College of St Mark and St John, we are fully involved with all areas of ITT placements. We have recently received between twelve and sixteen students each year and plan in advance to secure placements which will support fully the training requirements of the College, at the same time enriching our practice, bringing innovative ideas and enriching the full range of opportunities we provide within our schools. We welcome BEd Y1, 2, 3 (and 4) and PGCE students. Being committed to teaching French for six years as a school we are always pleased to take PGCE students with Modern Foreign Languages. As a school keen to promote its international strengths we are proud of our links with Kutztown and Lockhaven and have established strong friendships with colleagues from America. Culturally we have enjoyed hosting Malaysian students annually and try not to refuse additional requests for extra places when contacted by the College in the multi cultural arena, which we believe adds such great quality and understanding for children; albeit in small snapshots, of other cultures, religions and traditions. We do have a LA Nursery and we hope in the future that we will be able to add to our student complement with Early Years setting age 3+ - 4+. We have only facilitated one GTP placement to date, for us finance being the only barrier to this particular training. Beyond teaching practice placements we often accommodate team teaching experiences supporting the students studies and are often asked to be the setting for owrk done by students for assignments and dissertations. We are always pleased to have students with us and happily acknowledge the school's successful appointment of six of our current teaching staff as ex-Marjon students.
On placements we encourage students to be fully involved with school life and after school activities; (whilst recognising the time commitment students have to fulfil the numerous tasks a practice places upon them). Time permitting however we enable students to join us for staff meetings and INSET. Some elect to support extra curricular activities: football, netball, gymnastics and one student elected to help with our Early Years Starter Club (Breakfast Club). Students have joined us on residential weekends and attended Open Evenings as CPD.
As Headteacher, I have supported the 'preparation for interview' for many students in their final TP's as they come to this particular stage and we constantly provide references for those who have recently worked with us. Mrs L Smith, Headteacher.

Speech & Language Therapy
Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre
Gerry Roxburgh and Sarah Gibbin Speech and Language Therapists say "The Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre (FBIRC) is a 29 bedded rehabilitation unit for adults and adolescents following acquired or traumatic brain injury. The Centre takes referrals from across the South West including patients with a range of physical, cognitive and behavioural disorders. It comprises a truly interdisciplinary team, with SLT, OT, Physio, Neuropsychology, and Rehabilitation Technicians working together to progress the patient. Students are taken from a range of disciplines throughout the year, including the therapies, nursing and music therapy.
We see taking students as our duty to our profession, but more importantly, as an enjoyable part of the year. Students form an important part of our learning. They challenge our thinking, creativity, and theory which is an important part of our own CPD. Having students helps us reflect on our personal career pathways, and can help provide impetus for change. With regard our service, patients seen by students receive input that is carefully planned and linked to recent theory/research. Our patients enjoy the change in approach and often respond positively to this.
The FBIRC is set up so SLT students benefit most from block placements, as it is possible to see patients intensively over a short period, and make a real difference to their communication skills. We believe that peer placements offer an excellent opportunity for students to reflect with each other and work together, and therefore will continue to offer peer placements in future.
Students who enjoy working in an interdisciplinary environment, are open-minded and flexible in approach and have some awareness of the behavioural changes that can follow TBI will get the most out of their placement here."
