BA (Hons)Drama
Introduction
This course challenges students to explore what it means to be a drama practitioner in the 21st century and to acquire the flexible skills and understanding to apply drama in a range of theatrical, educational and community contexts. We teach classes of up to 24 students supported by plenty of one to one contact time with a personal tutor.

Our typical minimum entry requirements for applicants with A levels/AS levels/BTEC is 220 points.Applications from students with non-traditional qualifications are welcome.
Module Information
1st year
Students have the opportunity to develop and extend their own passions and understandings of the origins and nature of drama, its role and purpose in society and to explore how social context influences dramatic content and form. You will also have opportunities to develop key performance, workshop and research skills and explore what it means to be a committed, reflective drama practitioner.
2nd year
Drama and Community: An examination of significant models of Community Theatre practice with two challenging community project assignments.
Drama and Lifelong Learning: Exploring the crucial importance of drama’s role in a balanced education – in both theory and practice.
Theatre Performance Skills: an opportunity to further develop performance skills in relation to the concepts and principles associated with popular entertainment and cabaret performance.
3rd year
Students take increased responsibility for their own learning and practice, which is largely self-directed. We now explore drama from a global, ecological and multicultural perspective. Further modules extend understanding of the social uses of drama, including dramatherapy and special needs drama, and further develop performance skills. The Drama Dissertation presents an exciting opportunity for you to engage in an in-depth research project on a topic of your choice in a theatre, community or educational setting.

Career Opportunities
Many of our graduates move on to postgraduate study. Several are now teaching in local schools or have forged careers in youth and community work and health related areas e.g. dramatherapy. Others further pursue their interest in theatre making and performance, e.g. theatre based MAs.
