French Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course
Introduction
UCP Marjon is the only French SKE centre in the South West. The French SKE course is typically taught over 4 months (April - July), allowing you to have a 6 week break before the very demanding PGCE year. Typically, course participants will have a very basic knowledge of French.

16 weeks, full-time, running from Tuesday 10 April until Friday 27 July 2012.
Entry Requirements
Applicants need to hold a PGCE/GTP offer before we interview for an enhancement course.
Module Information
This intensive course will:
- Take you to top GCSE standard, in the first 8 weeks - exams during week 9
- Allow you to spend the next 2 weeks in an immersion course in Brest, France (weeks 7 and 8 - 21 May to 1 June 2012), including a stay with host families and tuition at the highly reputable Centre International d’Etudes de Langues (CIEL)
- Take you to AS level in the final 6 weeks of the course (weeks 10 to 16)
You will be subscribed to an on-line vocabulary building website - 'Vocabexpress'.
At the end of the course you will be set an exam that will consist of:
- grammar (A2 level);
- reading/listening comprehension (AS level);
- oral (As level);
- 1,000 words piece of writing which you will work on whilst on your placement in France.
Fees and Funding
The course is fully funded by the TDA. UCP Marjon can also offer students a grant of £200 per week for the full duration of the course (£3200 in total).
Course Tutors
Bernard Lien, is a native speaker of French, Head of MFL and PGCE MFL route leader at UCP Marjon. With over 30 years experience as a teacher of French, Head of MFL, textbook author, MFL county adviser (Devon), OFSTED inspector and teacher trainer. This ensures that the course will cover knowledge of the methodology as well as of the subject matter itself, hence ideally preparing you for your PGCE MFL year.
