Chemistry 1 Unit Subject Knowledge Enhancement
Introduction
This 10 day course will cover the following areas:
- The particle model and its applications
- Physical and chemical change
- Making and testing gases
- Reactions of acids and making salts
- Indicators, neutralisation and pH scale
- The chemistry of rocks
- Geological processes
- Energy and chemical reactions
- Materials – including smart materials
- Chemistry in society
- How science works
Health and safety issues will be dealt with throughout the course.
Course Code / Duration
Duration
The courses last for 10 full days from 16th July - 27th July 2012 consisting in total of 50 hours of face-to-face tuition. This course is provided under the auspices of the TDA’s Subject Knowledge Enhancement initiatives.
Entry Requirements
- You must have been offered and have accepted a training place with an ITT provider for a Secondary Science course (PGCE, GTP, or similar graduate programme)
- The offer you hold will be conditional on successful completion of the Enhancement Course
- You will have been referred to us by your ITT provider
- You cannot be accepted onto the course if you have already taken part in a TDA funded Subject Knowledge Enhancement course

Fees and Funding
The course has been funded by the Training and Development Agency (TDA) so there are no course fees. There is a tax free bursary of £400 which is paid at the end of the course.

UCP Marjon’s Chemistry Enhancement Course is designed to provide you with the confidence and increased knowledge to prepare you to undertake a full-time postgraduate course of Secondary teacher training. The course is open to intending trainees from across the whole region.
