Students from UCP MARJON set a new World Record at Home Park last Monday.They set the fastest time to take 2018 penalties in support for the Plymouth World Cup Bid and England 2018.

In December 2009, Plymouth was selected as a Candidate Host City for the England 2018 Bid which could bring huge economic and legacy benefits to the South West.

The hot-shot teams from the Faculty of Sport, Media and Creative Arts will kick off against the clock as part of a day of entertainment hosted at Plymouth Argyle’s ground on Bank Holiday May 3rd. The first 2000 penalties will be taken by students, with the final 18 being taken by special guests.

Keith Jones of UCP MARJON said, “The Dean, staff and students of the University are pleased to support the community and healthy lifestyles wherever we can. We are keen to get involved and back the bid for England 2018. Hosting the World Cup in Plymouth will provide an excellent legacy to the city and surrounding area with investment in sport, youth development and facilities for the future.

A spokesman for the World Cup team said, “The Record Attempt is an example of the grassroots support throughout the community for football and the World Cup coming to England in 2018. Plymouth’s part is very much a ‘People’s Bid’ with involvement across the region and a warm welcome to all who share a passion for the game.
