Healthy foods on UCP Marjon’s new menus
Released: 22.09.08
As part of UCP Marjon’s commitment to a healthier lifestyle, the catering department has got behind the Fit for Business initiative. As a result, 11 catering staff recently completed a 9hr workshop (over 2 days) to receive The Royal Institute of Public Health Level 2 Award in Healthier Food and Special Diets.
Fit for Business is the National Recognition Scheme for Workplace Health designed specifically to support organisations looking to embed workplace health and well-being into their company strategy.
Michelle Brown, Catering Manager said:
“All the staff that took part enjoyed the course and were delighted to pass. All catering areas are now being addressed. At present we have introduced a new menu in Le Café Rendezvous which includes ‘healthier’ alternatives in the dishes such as wholemeal pasta, pastry or bread, and cream and eggs being replaced with natural yogurt or crème fraiche. Additionally, today the University College shop is introducing their new fresh fruit and vegetable ordering service for both staff and students.
New Christmas menus have also been designed for both staff & students. We hope that other members of the catering team may be able to complete the qualifications and that there will be further training opportunities available for those that have already completed this course.”
